McIntosh STAR Student Selected as Region Finalist

Fayette County’s STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) student was shinning brightly this spring as she was named a Region STAR finalist.

Recent McIntosh High graduate Minna Choi was one of 21 students in the state selected as a finalist. All finalists are either in the top 10 percent or top 10 of their graduating class.

Every high school in Georgia has a STAR student; he or she is the one with the highest SAT score. Choi was Fayette’s STAR student since she posted the highest SAT score of all of the STAR students in the county.

Each STAR student selects an educator who has had the most influence on his or her academic success. Choi selected Advanced Placement Spanish Teacher Lector Zamore as her STAR teacher.

Choi and Zamore were honored for their achievements during the State PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) STAR Banquet in April at the Buckhead Hotel Atlanta. As a Region STAR finalist, Choi received a $500 cash award from the Cecil B. Day Foundation and Zamore received a $200 award from the PAGE Foundation.
