Parents of children with disabilities are invited to attend a free workshop organized by the Fayette County School System’s Exceptional Children’s Services Department and Parent Mentor Allison Stevenson.
Special Education 101 will take place on September 3 at Rivers Elementary located at 361 Sandy Creek Road. A morning session, 8:30 a.m., and an evening session, 6 p.m., has been scheduled for parents’ convenience.
Topics for both sessions will include presentations on IDEA law, the IEP process, non-verbal communication and body language, and organizing your child’s paperwork. Rosie Gwin, exceptional children’s services coordinator, will lead the morning session; Chris Horton, director of exceptional children’s services, will conduct the evening session.
Light refreshments and door prize drawings will be held at both sessions.
Attendance is free but participants need to preregister by September 1 by contacting Allison Stevenson at stevenson.allison@mail.fcboe.org or 770-460-3911, ext. 239.
