A bright sunny day and some math was all it took to get the garden behind Rising Starr Middle ready for spring planting.
Exceptional students in Holly Monahan’s class have been maintaining the garden for several years, growing both vegetables and flowers. This year they got some help with soil preparation from Natalie Fields’ math students. The students calculated the area of each planter box to determine the proper amount of fertilizer neeed before planting.
School Superintendent Jeff Bearden happened to be visiting the school and got a quick lesson from the students on the calculations and the garden. Pictured (left to right) School Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden, Hayden Long (behind planter), Kevin Khadkhodaian and Wright Hood.
