Exceptional Children’s Services Free Parent Workshops

Fayette County parents are invited to participate in three upcoming workshops addressing Hearing / Vision Impairments, Autism and Emotional Behavioral Disorder September 29 and October 1 at Rivers Elementary, located at 461 Sandy Creek Road in Fayetteville.

The Hearing Impaired/Visually Impaired Eligibility workshop will be held September 29 at 6 p.m. Discussion will focus on eligibility, services available and parent support groups.

Two workshops are scheduled for October 1. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Autism workshop will address Autism/Asperger’s eligibility, services available for students in the general curriculum and TRIAD (Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders) programs, social skills curriculum and behavior supports. There will also be a brief question and answer period for general questions.

Starting at 6 p.m. on October 1, the Emotional Behavioral Disorder (EBD) workshop will discuss EBD eligibility, services available for students in the general school and therapeutic educational settings, social skills and behavior supports.

There is no charge to attend any of the three workshops, but participants must preregister by September 28 for the Hearing Impaired/Visually Impaired workshop and by September 30 for the Autism and EBD workshops. Participants can reserve their space by emailing the Fayette County School System’s Parent Mentor, Allison Stevenson, at stevenson.allison@mail.fcboe.org, or call 770-460-3911, ext. 239.

The workshops are open to all parents of students with the disabilities addressed and to community members who want to learn more about how the Fayette County Public School System serves children with these impairments.

Light refreshments and door prize drawings will be held at each workshop.
