Fayetteville Honors the Birthday of Marquis de Lafayette with a Proclamation

Shown are Susan Sloan, Chairman of Commemorative Events for James Waldrop Chapter DAR and Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele.

At a recent City of Fayetteville Council Meeting, the birthday of the Marquis de Lafayette was honored by the presentation of a proclamation to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

LaFayette, a champion of the American cause for freedom from the English Crown, volunteered his services against the order of his own King. He received no pay for his assistance to the colonists and was able to convince the King of France to join the colonists in fighting the overbearing English King.

The James Waldrop Chapter DAR, chartered in Fayetteville, was honored to be instrumental in Fayetteville proclaiming September as LaFayette Month.
