Constitution Week Proclaimed by Fayette County Commissioners

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners recently proclaimed September 17-23 as Constitution Week in Fayette County.  2010 marks the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. 

Receiving the proclamation were members of the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.  The James Waldrop Chapter DAR reminds everyone to read the Constitution and know your rights, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

Never Too Young or Too Old To Learn About the Constitution

"Have you read the Constitution lately?" asks the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Week display at the City of Fayetteville Library.

The Constitution of the United States is 223 years old, the oldest surviving of its kind in the world, and defines our government, rights, and responsibilities as citizens.

In 1956, President Eisenhower signed Public Bill 915 which established the nationwide annual observance of Constitution Week as September 17-23.  The aim of this celebration is to encourage our citizens to read the Constitution so we may protect and defend it, and to study the historical events surrounding its signing.

The James Waldrop Chapter DAR of Fayetteville encourages all citizens  to read the Constitution during this time of our nation's celebration.

Fayette County BOE Proclaims Sept 17-23 as Constitution Week

At the recent Fayette County Board of Education meeting, the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was presented with a proclamation declaring September 17-23, 2010, as Constitution Week in the Fayette County Schools.  This is the fourth year the Board of Education has presented the proclamation to the DAR. 

The DAR visits several of the county's elementary schools in September to teach the children about the history of the United States Constitution. Constitution Week Vice Chairman Ann Eldredge stated, "The ladies of the DAR practice what we preach.  We love to teach the children about the origins of the Constitution.  Over the last three years, our members have spoken to over 1300 4th and 5th graders in Fayette County.  Each year, we dress in clothing which represents the time frame of the American Revolution and try to bring the Constitution to life.  The children learn about how the Constitution was framed and about some of the men who represented the state of Georgia. The younger children are given bookmarks with the preamble to the Constitution while the older students are given booklets of the Constitution.  We wouldn't be able to provide these booklets without the continuing support of our Georgia Congressmen and Senators."

Betty Harrah, Regent of the James Waldrop Chapter DAR, also presented a certificate of appreciation to the BOE for the ongoing support of the Constitution.

Say “Thanks” to Teachers May 3-7

Students, parents and the community at-large are encouraged to show Fayette’s teachers how much they are appreciated for the work they do by honoring them during National Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7.

Great teachers have had an impact on every individual at some point in his or her life. Every year the finalists for Fayette County Teacher of the Year reflect on that one teacher who made learning fun and helped them feel special. Because of how a certain teacher touched their lives, these individuals decided to become educators, too.

Teachers play a very important role in the development of almost all societies. Their contribution toward the education and development of children, a country’s future generation, is invaluable. Because of this, almost all major countries of the world devote a special day to celebrate teachers; some of them are national holidays while others are celebrated during working days.

In the United States, the first full week in May is designated as National Teacher Appreciation Week with the Tuesday of that week marked as National Teacher Day. Both present and former students can pay tribute to the teachers who have touched their lives by simply sending a card, email or note of thanks. The best reward a teacher can receive is a “thank-you” for the job they do and impact they make on the community.

Inman Elementary Kicks Off Constitution Week with Local DAR

Inman Elementary School 4th graders received a visit from members of the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution to kick off the week long celebration of the 222nd anniversary of the framing of the United States Constitution. Each year, the ladies come and speak to the children about the history of the writing of the Constitution and its meaning in their lives today.

Fayetteville Declares September 17-23 Constitution Week

At the recent City of Fayetteville Council Meeting, Mayor Kenneth Steele presented a proclamation to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution for Constitution Week to be celebrated September 17-23, 2009.

Mayor Steele thanked Constitution Week Chairman Ann Eldredge for the ongoing work the chapter does in the community for promoting American history.

Eldredge encouraged the crowd to read and to study the Constitution as it is the oldest of its kind still in use today. This year marks the 222nd anniversary of the framing of the U.S. Constitution.

Kedron Elementary School Celebrates Constiution Week

Fayetteville Intermediate School Learns About the Constitution from DAR

The fourth and fifth graders at Fayetteville Intermediate School learned about the Constitution from the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in a special Constitution Week program. To conclude the presentation, the children read the Preamble to the Constitution and waited in line to pledge their support to the Constitution, which turns 221 years old on September 17.

The City of Fayetteville proclaimed September 17-23 as Constitution Week at a recent City Council Meeting. Ann Eldredge, Constitution Week Chairman of the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, commented that this year Americans celebrate the 221st anniversary of the signing of the U. S. Constitution. The James Waldrop Chapter DAR and the City of Fayetteville urge all citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Constitution and to vigilantly protect the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

Board of Education Urges Students to Study the U.S. Constitution

The Fayette County Board of Education recently passed a resolution to proclaim September 17-23 Constitution Week for the schools in Fayette County, Georgia. All children of the Fayette County School System are encouraged to read and to study the U. S. Constitution.

The Board of Education presented the proclamation to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Each year, members of the James Waldrop Chapter DAR visit several of the elementary schools and present an educational program to the children.

2008 marks the 221st anniversary of the signing of the U. S. Constitution.

Celebrate Constitution Day with Bells

The James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will kick off Constitution Week with bell ringing on September 17th at noon at the old Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville. The weeklong commemoration of America’s most important document is one of our country’s least known official observances. Our Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties and freedom, and to ensure those unalienable rights to every American. The public is invited to bring bells and join in as our country celebrates the day. In addition to the bells, all are invited to publicly sign their support of the U. S. Constitution. The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will be providing a musket salute for the occasion.
