Whitewater Students Highlighted in Leading Invention Magazine

The InvenTeam at Whitewater High has been getting a lot of exposure since winning a $10,000 grant from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop a solar food dehydrator for developing countries.

Their latest appearance was in the July 2009 edition of Inventor’s Digest, a print and online publication for inventors that focuses on delivering cutting-edge information to help its readers succeed. The magazine is distributed to 116 different countries.

The Whitewater InvenTeam includes Andrew Barth, Zuri Coleman, Jacob Cotton, Hendri deBeer, Matt Doss, Chris Sandwich, Kavita Singh and Eric Vogel. Carolyn Smith is the advisor and Ted Wansley is the co-sponsor.

The article explains the team’s project and their successes and challenges in developing the prototype, which not only preserves food but also converts vapors from the dehydration process into potable water.

The team hopes to get a working prototype into the field so that it can get more grants to continue the project. The prototype was revealed this past spring during EurekaFest at MIT.

Evander Holyfield Faces a New Challenger: Global Warming

/PRNewswire/ -- During "Climate Week" at the United Nations, 100 heads of state met to discuss four-time heavy weight boxing champion of the world, Evander Holyfield. He will announce on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 9:00 am, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel (Downtown), 265 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA that he plans to take on one of his toughest opponents yet: Global Warming. Holyfield, "The Lean Green Fighting Machine," is fighting for Planet Earth. The champ has been motivated to look for solutions for the environment and intends to build a 40 acre solar energy farm on his estate in Georgia. The solar farm will be built in collaboration with Global-NES-Georgia, Inc.
