The textbook recommended for the new high school math course, Mathematics of Finance, is on display for public review and comment at the LaFayette Educational Center located at 205 LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville.
The textbook will be available for review and comment through April 18 during regular office hours. The board of education will vote on the adoption of the textbook at the regular business meeting on April 19.
Mathematics of Finance is an option to Math 4 in the senior year of study.
The standards for this course were adopted by the Georgia Department of Education in November, and counts as a core unit of mathematics toward earning a high school diploma. Fayette County will offer the course next year to high school seniors.

Reading/Language Arts Textbook Adoption
The proposed textbooks for the 2010-2011 reading and language arts K-5 textbook adoption are currently on display for public review and comment.
The books are on display at the LaFayette Educational Center, located at 205 LaFayette Drive in Fayetteville, in the lobby of Building A. The books will be available for public review Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through February 5.
The Fayette County Board of Education will vote on the recommended textbooks at their regular monthly meeting on February 9, 7 p.m., in the boardroom of the Fayette County Board of Education.

School System Meets Expectations for District Accreditation
Based on the review submitted by the Quality Assurance Team of AdvancED in January, the AdvancED Accreditation Committee has unanimously recommended that District Accreditation be awarded to the Fayette County School System. This means that if the accreditation committee approves the recommendation, the school system and all of its schools will be granted a five-year term accreditation.
“On behalf of the Quality Assurance Review Team, SACS CASI and AdvancED, I want to commend and congratulate you, the professional staff, the board of education and stakeholders throughout the community on this achievement to be awarded District Accreditation as a Quality School System. SACS CASI and AdvancED look forward to our continued association with Fayette County Schools and our partnership to improve student learning through accreditation,” said Mark A. Elgart, president and chief executive officer of AdvancED in a letter to Superintendent John DeCotis.
AdvancED District Accreditation provides a national protocol for school systems committed to systemic, systematic and sustainable continuous improvement. The district accreditation process invites school systems to collaborate in reviewing the quality of the district’s systems and their contributions to teaching and learning. The process supports, enhances and stimulates growth and improvement throughout the school system.

Public Invited to View Proposed Math Textbooks
The mathematics textbook adoption committee has selected materials to recommend for use in the Fayette County School System beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. The textbooks are for Math 3, Accelerated Math 3 and Math 4.
The committee’s recommendations were presented to the Fayette County Board of Education during its regular meeting on November 17. The proposed textbooks are on display for public review at the former East Fayette Elementary School on Booker Avenue in Fayetteville. The public can view the materials November 18-December 15 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The recommendation will be considered for approval at the December 15 board meeting at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Board of Education.
