The Brooks City Council recently presented a proclamation for Constitution Week to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
At the recent Fayette County Board of Education meeting, the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was presented with a proclamation declaring September 17-23, 2010, as Constitution Week in the Fayette County Schools. This is the fourth year the Board of Education has presented the proclamation to the DAR.
The DAR visits several of the county's elementary schools in September to teach the children about the history of the United States Constitution. Constitution Week Vice Chairman Ann Eldredge stated, "The ladies of the DAR practice what we preach. We love to teach the children about the origins of the Constitution. Over the last three years, our members have spoken to over 1300 4th and 5th graders in Fayette County. Each year, we dress in clothing which represents the time frame of the American Revolution and try to bring the Constitution to life. The children learn about how the Constitution was framed and about some of the men who represented the state of Georgia. The younger children are given bookmarks with the preamble to the Constitution while the older students are given booklets of the Constitution. We wouldn't be able to provide these booklets without the continuing support of our Georgia Congressmen and Senators."
Betty Harrah, Regent of the James Waldrop Chapter DAR, also presented a certificate of appreciation to the BOE for the ongoing support of the Constitution.

At the Fayette County Commissioners' Meeting on September 19, 2009, Honor Flight Fayette was presented with a proclamation naming September 19th as Honor Flight Fayette Day. That is the day that HFF will take the 5th group of veterans to Washington D.C. to see their memorial, bringing the total of veterans taken by this group to 350.
The community is encouraged to come out on the 19th at 6:30 a.m. to wave flags and banners and give these members of the "Greatest Generation" a rousing send off from the First Methodist Church in Fayetteville next to the old courthouse.

At a recent City of Fayetteville Council Meeting, the birthday of the Marquis de Lafayette was honored by the presentation of a proclamation to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
LaFayette, a champion of the American cause for freedom from the English Crown, volunteered his services against the order of his own King. He received no pay for his assistance to the colonists and was able to convince the King of France to join the colonists in fighting the overbearing English King.
The James Waldrop Chapter DAR, chartered in Fayetteville, was honored to be instrumental in Fayetteville proclaiming September as LaFayette Month.

At the recent City of Fayetteville Council Meeting, Mayor Kenneth Steele presented a proclamation to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution for Constitution Week to be celebrated September 17-23, 2009.
Mayor Steele thanked Constitution Week Chairman Ann Eldredge for the ongoing work the chapter does in the community for promoting American history.
Eldredge encouraged the crowd to read and to study the Constitution as it is the oldest of its kind still in use today. This year marks the 222nd anniversary of the framing of the U.S. Constitution.
